I wanted to post this yesterday. But, I needed more time to contemplate what to say about this person: a black man, in the south, during segregation – powerless. Or was he powerless?

No. Martin Luther King, Jr. refused to be held powerless by the weak thoughts, emotions, and actions of racism, lies, and hatred.

Instead, he harnessed the undeniable, unrelenting powers of truth,
compassion, and nonviolence.

Ultimately, these powers cannot be denied or defeated. Hatred and lies never flourish or create any meaningful, everlasting change. They do not create, only destroy.

Martin Luther King, Jr. knew this and used those powers to create meaningful and everlasting change. I’m so grateful he did.

Do we have a long way to go? Absolutely. But, we move forward. Change is forward.

“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
