Sometimes a special human chosen by the universe leaves an energy so strong, it affects us even when they’re gone. Yesterday was Martin Luther King Day. The night before (shortly after 12AM) I was up, unable to sleep, (not knowing what date it was or the significance of it as it is not celebrated in Pakistan). I started thinking about great speeches that have changed the course of this planet and I couldn’t get MLK out of my head. I started to do some research on some wings of black American history (as I often do, as it has touched me deeply and fascinated me since I was a child). It started from me looking up specific Jim Crow laws, then details of Emmet Till’s murder and then how MLKjr was affected by it. My random trail of research led me to read more about MLK’s personality, his sense of humour, his purpose, his endurance, his relationship and influence on other people I admire from the civil right’s movement. I went to sleep thinking about the greatness that was Martin Luther King Jr. Not knowing that it was Martin Luther King Jr. day.
Such was his power.
